The Pieces of My Mind

This one holds a loved one.
This one, a friendly face.
This one though is darker,
has me reaching for a gun.
This one is a nightmare.
This one can't be controlled.
This one brings the barrel
up, just have to place it... where?

This one pulls me back now.
Safe in warm memories.
This one has saved my life.
I have no idea how.
This one's what's left of her.
Her, my greatest of loves.
This one's her forgotten
voice, reminding what we were...

This one broke long ago.
This fractured mind of mine.
These pieces float within,
and so peace I'll never know.
This one wants to warn you.
This one will tell you why.
This one knows what shat-
tered a mind once whole and true.

'Twas not the falling for
her, that broke this man's mind.
'Twas the never knowing,
if they could have been more,
that surely tore a-
sunder his heart, soul and mind.
